Baseline River Condition Assessment

A structured baseline survey is the starting point for any biodiversity enhancement or impact assessment.

This includes:

  • MoRPh (Modular River Physical) field surveys

  • MoRPh indicator analysis

  • River Type geomorphological desk study

  • Final River Condition Class determination

 

The resulting condition indicators are derived from both field and desk-based data and can be entered into the Statutory Biodiversity Metric to support Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) calculations.

One of the key strengths of the River Condition Assessment (RCA) methodology is its ability to steer project design.

Each condition indicator is assigned a positive or negative score based on survey findings. Identifying negatively scoring indicators allows targeted intervention design.
